Community Development: Inner City Refugee Programme

Zoë-Life's Inner City Refugee programme is designed to build capacity within and among African refugee communities, so that refugees may have access to HIV health services. Currently, our team is developing project plans and building relationships with existing refugee organisations and related NGOs for this purpose.

Zoë-Life will support and strengthen those organisations already providing some kind of service to refugees, and will assist those that have an interest in offering comprehensive HIV services to do so, as long as certain status and access criteria can be confirmed.

Our team includes members from Malawi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zimbabwe, who have been trained to provide training and counselling. One of the next steps is to produce Zoë-Life's HIV literacy materials into relevant languages for dissemination.

Lenore Edwards, Zoë-Life's Projects Support Officer, will manage this project:

What I love most is working on the ground. Although my main role for the Refugee Programme will be in supervision, I see myself being able to reach quite deeply into our work in bringing life-saving care to these under-served people in the midst of our city.
